USO Naples-Q4 2023 Volunteer of the Quarter

Please join USO Naples in congratulating our incredible volunteer, MA2 Tyler Shepard, on earning Volunteer of the Quarter (Q4)! Not only did Tyler receive this wonderful recognition, but he is also representing all of our area for volunteer of the quarter for the region!

Since joining USO Naples as a volunteer back in April 2023, Tyler has been the reliable backbone for many operations around the two USO Naples centers. He is one of the most dependable and consistent volunteers of the year and has helped make significant upgrades to the USO Support Site center over the course of a few months. Tyler radiates positivity and is always available to help assist with volunteer shifts that are harder to fill such as early morning and late night flight support and storage unit clean-up shifts. In a little over six months, Tyler has served 47 volunteer shifts, earning over 140 hours, and achieving volunteer of the month in June 2023!

Tyler came into the Support Site center every Friday for months to help organize, re-label, decorate, and generally clean out the storage closets, storage unit, and center. He became a regular sight in the USO center and many patrons enjoyed his customer service and came in just to chat with him. He often opened and covered the centers as well, and took care of administrative & operations tasks while new staff members were doing training and adjusting to their new positions. He also often volunteered for early and late-night flight shifts, all while juggling the duties of being an active duty member!

Tyler could also be found volunteering at a variety of USO Naples programming including, the monthly “Taste of Home” for Single Sailors, the large “Festa Americana” Fourth of July celebration, the weekly Cornhole Hour, the daily USO Café, and more! Tyler stepped up and became a pillar in USO Naples’ volunteer committee during a high staff turnover and he is greatly appreciated for putting the mission first and finding a way to support USO Naples in pivotal ways.

Originally from Andover, New York, in his free time, Tyler enjoys hiking through the great outdoors and the Naples area and chef-ing it up in the kitchen with new recipes.
