USO Naples - March 2023 Volunteer of the Month

Please join us in congratulating our incredible volunteer, Leonard Lewis, on earning March 2023 Volunteer of the Month! Leonard has been volunteering with us since September of this year and has already served over 111 hours in 44 different shifts. Leonard has supported the team and community through a variety of different programs and events ranging from our Special Delivery Baby Shower to Daddy Daughter Dance to Couples’ Yoga to Family Game Night to at-home opportunities that we needed administrative support on. He truly jumps in whenever he can to help and is someone that the team can rely on to spearhead volunteer efforts, even without staff present.

Leonard personally took the lead role in a handful of different programs, such as the base trick-or-treating Spooky Spot, Operation Cookie Drop on Christmas Eve & Day, New Year’s Eve care package deliveries, our support in the K9 Veterans Day 5K, and so much more. In addition to taking on this additional responsibility and running as a point person for the team, he also has been a huge USO supporter and recruiter, bringing in teammates and friends and encouraging them to sign-up and become a volunteer. On a handful of occasions, Leonard has personally walked Soldiers in meet the team and begin their profile.

Leonard is a calm, reliable, and stabilizing force. He’s always a pleasure to work with and comes with a positive, professional attitude, willing to support whatever the mission may be. While many folks become passionate about specific programs and gravitate towards those, Leonard has really done it all and even takes on some of the lesser desired tasks like grocery shopping support, storage cleanouts, flyer distribution, and trivia question creation.

Our March 2023 Volunteer of the Month comes to us originally from Jackson, Mississippi and loves traveling, playing different sports, and cooking. When asked why he began volunteering with us, he shared that, with this being his first time being stationed overseas, “[he] knew volunteering would be a great opportunity to be a part of the USO volunteering community to learn more about what the organization offers.” It’s a great way to meet others while giving back at the same time. While Leonard really has supported so many programs, when asked his favorite, he shared, “my favorite programs to volunteer for are the care package deliveries to security, fire, etc. because it’s always good to show them how much we appreciate them and what they do for our community.”

Leonard, thank you for your outstanding service and commitment to the NSA Naples community. We appreciate you, and congratulations on earning March 2023 Volunteer of the Month! #USONaples #BeTheForce
