Holiday Cheer Onboard the USS George H.W. Bush

USO Sigonella is always looking for new, innovative ways to connect with service members near or far while they are serving the nation. Sometimes it is difficult to reach deployed service members, but in December, the USO team found a creative way to bring the holiday goodness directly to them. During the holiday season, service members deployed onboard the USS George H.W. Bush received a bundle of Christmas cheer to share together and celebrate just as they would at home. Service members onboard have spent several months away from home and unfortunately do not get an opportunity to spend many holidays with loved ones. USO Sigonella made an effort to bring the sailors a morale-boosting Program in a Box to be sent to the hardworking service members while at sea. Inside these boxes were six hundred total care packages filled with a variety of sweet treats to put a smile on each service member’s face. Hot chocolate, candy, and classic American snacks were carefully wrapped and individually packaged with a heartwarming tag to connect service members back to their home country while deployed.

Upon receiving the handmade care packages, service members had an opportunity to join in comradery as they opened their surprise packages. USO Sigonella is thrilled to have successfully engaged with the sailors, especially during such a tough time of the year for many of the deployed. Sending these care packages made it possible to celebrate the holidays with service members even if they couldn’t be physically present in the USO Center. USO Sigonella will strive and continue to engage with service members near and far with the Program in a Box shipments to spread cheer and morale across the globe.
