Santa's Holiday Celebration

It is the most wonderful time of the year, and USO Vicenza staff and elves ensured it was just that during their annual Santa’s Holiday Celebration. Hoekstra Pavilion was turned into a holiday wonderland with green and red garland all around, candy canes, and even a beautiful Christmas tree trimmed in red and gold, with presents galore beneath it. All of the favorite merry tunes filled the air as service members and families arrived, waiting for the festivities to begin. Off in the distance, a bell could be heard, followed by a resounding “Ho, Ho Ho!” signaling to all that Santa was near. The little ones began to dance with excitement as they prepared to meet the jolly man himself.

As furry companions and human family members waited to meet Santa, they enjoyed a variety of tasty treats, such as hot coffee, sugar cookies, cupcakes, reindeer chow, delicious cocoa, and more. Then one by one, families lined up to capture their special moment with Santa and let him know of their wishes this holiday season, and even the four-legged friends joined in the fun. Once done, children were able to create their own ornaments with a variety of colors and shapes, ensuring each one was as different as a snowflake. Little ones also had the opportunity to write a letter to Santa, coloring each page to thank him and share their wish lists. As the festivities came to an end and Santa departed, he wished everyone a happy holiday with a holly-jolly wave. Thanks to the USO and community partners, patrons were reminded of traditions from home during the holidays and were able to create new memories while living in Italy.
