USO Vicenza Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

The USO knows how important it is to celebrate diversity and is excited to do so by hosting unique events highlighting the different ethnic groups in the Vicenza Military Community. This month, USO Vicenza put on a Hispanic Heritage Celebration to highlight the Hispanic culture and show the diversity within the community. Patrons lined up early at the center, delighted to enjoy some trivia, festive decorations, music, and tacos, as they were also celebrating National Taco Day. As a special surprise during the event, a Hispanic dance instructor awed the crowd, demonstrating beautifully choreographed dance moves, all part of the Latino tradition. Donors from around the community prepared and donated authentic Hispanic dishes to share with the community, along with freshly prepared tacos.

Just before the serving of food began, a surprise guest arrived kicking off the festivities. The Garrison Commander, Col Gomlak, talked to the patrons about the benefits of celebrating our ethnicities and how that makes the community and military stronger. Once the speech ended, the dinner bell rang, and hungry patrons started lining up to sample the many different foods that had lovingly been prepared. As the service members and their families enjoyed the feast, they were delighted to join in on some interesting trivia questions about Hispanic American History, vying to win fun prizes. By the end of the evening, smiles along with words of thanks and appreciation, were given to the hardworking staff and volunteers for hosting this wonderful event. This event provided many with new memories while connecting them to the homes that they miss.
