USO Sigonella’s Summer Block Party

Summertime brings lots of fun and lots of challenges. For members of the military community, it marks PCS season; it is a time when you and your family may be moving to a new duty station. If not your family, it is very likely that you will at least say one goodbye to a friend or neighbor. Not to mention, it’s hot, really hot! Kids are out of school, babysitters may need to be found, and again, it’s really, really hot. Enough about the challenges; let’s talk about the fun! One of the ways the USO eases this time of transition is by putting on events that not only bring a family together but the community as a whole.

There’s nothing better than spending a summer evening at a Block Party with friends and family. USO Sigonella did just that with families stationed here in Sicily. On June 24th, 2022, USO Sigonella spent the evening in Marinai Base Housing hosting their Summer Block Party that will certainly be remembered by each attendee. Games, tie dye, popcorn, hotdogs, and amazing music from a live DJ, and everything in between was the perfect way to bring some familiar summer fun to military members and their families. Children lined the block to play carnival games before they hopped in line to get face paintings, all under the wave of bubbles floating from the park. Smiles reached from ear to ear throughout the night as each guest participated in the different booths stationed around the playground.

No matter how many miles they may be from home, USO Sigonella is here to bring the traditional festivities from the states to the backyard of military members. By orchestrating events like these, USO Sigonella paves the way for all people to come together under the summer sky.
