What's Poppin' at the USO

USO Sigonella conducted a few “pop” up events to celebrate National Popcorn Day! The staff of the USO brought their popcorn machine out of retirement and fired it up for some fresh “corny” goodness. First, they had a popcorn concession stand at the NAS Sigonella air terminal, where the smell of hot buttery kernels brought service members in like the pied piper. The patrons received a cup brimming with the light, airy, treats and accented them with their favorite topping. The traditionalists could go with the standard salt, those a little bolder, with the parmesan cheese, and the real adventurers grabbed a fork and drizzled on some hot sauce. Everyone loved the surprise and enjoyed the salty snack with a side of jokes and smiles. However, USO Sigonella wasn’t done there; families gathered at the Marinai youth center to be part of the Teddy Bear Club Circus! They began the day’s festivities with an exciting craft. The parents and kids outlined their hands to make a circus elephant standing on a ball and got to listen to a dramatic reading of “Little Elliot Big fun” about an elephant that conquers his fears by riding a scary ride at the carnival. During the circus-themed story and crafts, everyone was able to enjoy snack bags of animal crackers, lion fruit cups, and of course the star of the day… Popcorn! USO Sigonella loves being able to connect service members and their families with memories and the familiarities of home, even if it is something as small as a bag of popcorn.
