USO Naples Celebrates 81 Years

February 4th, 2022 marks 81 years of service for the USO. Centers around the world celebrated 81 years of serving as a community-driven organization with global impact - demonstrating nimble responsiveness, agile operations, innovative programs, and vital support to service members and their families during the times where they needed it most. The first of three celebratory programs in Naples, Italy was kicked off at the USO Naples Capodichino Lounge. Troops took their lunch break and helped celebrate with a festive luncheon courtesy of USO Naples complete with a hearty menu, games, and giveaways.

USO Italy and Spain Area Director, Sabrina Pullido gave opening remarks and welcomed Captain James Stewart, Commanding Officer, Naval Support Activity Naples who shared the positive impact both the USO as an organization and the USO Naples team has on the military community. The past two years in Italy have been filled with uncertainty and ever-changing covid restrictions, adding to the already existing overseas stressors many service members and their families face. Despite the constant changes, the USO has remained a pillar of strength that military families can rely on for support, morale, and services. Throughout having to adapt to the lockdowns and regulations put in place, USO Naples continued to offer free programs, services, and tours, providing the support the military community desperately needed. These successes among many others were what USO Naples celebrated in honor of the USO’s birthday.

Troops excitedly lined up to receive a meal of pulled pork sandwiches, homemade mac and cheese, baked beans, and a slice of birthday cake. They stopped by the Birthday Bonanza giveaway table, spinning the wheel for a chance to win instant prizes like USO swag and candy bags. As if it was planned ahead of time, 81 servicemen and women attended the festive Troop Lunch, ending the event on a completely coincidental but positive note.

For the past 81 years, the USO has never failed to rise to the challenge of supporting service members and their families, and they will continue to do so for years to come in honor of the sacrifices they face. For there is nothing more important than serving those who serve us all.
