USO Sigonella supports in-person fellowship

After eight-teen long months of covid restrictions, the NAS Sigonella Chapel was permitted to host an in-person fellowship following each Sunday service. Without missing a beat, the USO Sigonella staff and volunteers jumped on the task and happily facilitated some sociability to the community that was very much needed. To accommodate as many of the parishioners as possible, the USO team served meals for both the Catholic Mass and the Protestant service, which followed shortly after. The team cooked up mouthwatering breakfast burritos filled with hashbrowns, eggs, cheese, and sausage. Families gathered and shared not only breakfast and cups of coffee, but also smiles and great conversation. With the USO exuding a warm and friendly environment, the “Sunday Yum-Day” event allowed children and families to make connections and lasting memories of fellowship overseas. Attendees of the fellowship expressed their excitement and gratitude to finally have a sense of normalcy back into their lives after the long drought of not being able to gather after church services. For the USO team, it is more than rewarding to provide support in times of change, especially as things ease back into normal operations at NAS Sigonella. The attendees were so grateful to have the opportunity to come together to share their breakfast and spend quality time with friends and family. The popularity of “Sunday Yum-Day” was overwhelmingly positive and USO Sigonella is excited to continue its outreach to the community via meaningful events such as this one.
