USO Naples Volunteer of the Month July 2021 Michelle Barker

Our Volunteer of the Month is one who truly knows what it means to love the USO. Mrs. Michelle Barker was born and raised in Buffalo, New York before starting her military career. “The USO has been an amazing resource for me throughout my military career, so when I saw that USO Naples was looking for volunteers I knew it would be the best way to show my appreciation,” she said when asked about why she chose to volunteer with the USO.

Since her arrival in Naples in May, Michelle has donated 50 hours of her time to the USO, with half of those hours being completed in the last month alone! “I especially enjoy volunteering for the programs that don’t happen regularly, like National Selfie Day or providing support for a command picnic. I get to meet so many different people and every new event brings on new challenges and ideas!”

When she’s not volunteering, you often can find her in the gym with her husband. In fact, she recently successfully completed the 500 Club Challenge with a combined weight of 610 pounds! Other than crushing it at the gym, she can be seen “attempting to eat all the gelato Italy has to offer”.
