USO Naples Volunteer of the Month March 2021 - IT2 Tasfir Huq

USO Naples is excited to announce IT2 Tasfir (Ty) Huq as our Volunteer of the Month for March 2021! Since joining the USO Naples Volunteer Committee in November 2021, IT2 Huq has dedicated over 70 hours of volunteer service to the USO and military community. Many of you might recognize him from programs like Hot Dog Fridays, Cup of Joe or even Taste of Home. Whether it be serving hot dogs to families or a hot cup of coffee to our hardworking service members, Ty has brought an energetic and positive attitude to each program he has attended.

Originally from Queens, New York IT2 Huq is stationed here in Naples and has been volunteering with the USO since last November. “I chose to volunteer because the first thing I saw when I came to Naples was a little USO goodie bag,” Ty said after being asked why he chose to volunteer with the USO. “After a 12-hour flight and 14 days of quarantine I wanted to sign up immediately to give back and I have not regretted it in any way. I have had the opportunity to meet a lot of amazing people despite a pandemic going on, and more importantly I used to be a single sailor living in the barracks so I know how hard it can be. The smiles we get from something as simple as a home cooked meal, mean the world.”

Many you have probably been greeted by Ty at his favorite program, Breakfast Brigade. “Food is the window to the heart. I love breakfast and the 150 plus people that usually show up for some food or hot chocolate and coffee are always so appreciative and it’s great seeing all of the families,” says Ty. If IT2 Huq isn’t volunteering with the USO, you can find him spending his free time cooking new dishes, working out or watching his favorite movies. USO Naples is proud to have Ty on our volunteer team and is thankful for not just his service to the USO, but to our country as well. Please join us as we congratulate him as our Volunteer of the Month!
