Wellness Wednesdays

Health, wellness, and resilience are crucial attributes for America’s military force and their families. Rarely have these qualities taken on more significance than they have now, with increased restrictions and stress related to COVID-19 being piled on top of the hectic operational pace of NAS Sigonella. Even though being stationed in Italy sounds romantic and exciting, the realities of the demands of military life, the cessation of recreational travel, and the effects of quarantine can take a significant toll on one’s mental and physical health. Noting these challenges, USO Sigonella has embarked on an initiative with a series of programs designed to address and bolster wellness and resilience for our service members and families.

The initial program in this initiative is called Wellness Wednesday, and USO Sigonella began this twice a month event in the first week of January with overwhelming positive reactions from participants! Imagine, if you will, a table set up right outside the Air Terminal on NAS II on a sunny day, with beautiful, peaceful music playing on a large, outdoor speaker as patrons are greeted with fresh fruit, No Bake Energy Bites with the recipe card attached, guided meditation scripts, stress balls, and masks. This program is all designed to help promote the importance of health and wellness to the base community. The program aims to emphasize the importance of self-awareness and self-care, and to provide some actionable steps for service members and their families to advance their own health and wellness. Wellness Wednesdays will be held the first and last Wednesday of each month, and other elements of this important overall wellness initiative will be rolled out in the coming months – be on the look-out for more!
