USO Sigonella Barracks Holiday Decorating

Serving in the military is an honorable thing for a young person to do. Their service is necessary for our country but has both rewards and challenges. One of those challenges is being far away from home during traditional family times, like the current holiday season, and these challenges are increased with nearly all travel in Europe restricted or eliminated due to COVID. This hits our single and unaccompanied service members hard in many ways and USO Sigonella has been implementing various programs to help keep these service members connected to family, home and country even more so during this holiday season.

One example of this is an event at the two main barracks for NAS Sigonella where USO Sigonella, with help from residents, USO volunteers and volunteers from the All Officer’s Spouse Club (AOSC) put up the Christmas trees and decorations that USO Sigonella was able to buy last year as a result of a generous donation. This event included hot chocolate, fresh pizza, and home-baked cookies along with lively Christmas music, laughter, and a whole lot of fun. Even for those residents who did not join in on the fun of decorating the lobby of their barracks, the decorations greet them daily. These festive trees and decorations help to lift their spirits during this time of year that can be challenging for many. Happy Holidays to all!
